Graduates Are Made. Not Born.

The Blueprint for Educational Change is founded on the belief that education is a continuum that begins well before kindergarten and continues throughout our lives as working adults and that all students can succeed if given the opportunity and support along the way.

Each of the four goals of The Blueprint were developed by asking ourselves the central question that defines Central Texas’ need to generate more college-and-career ready graduates - what does it take to make a graduate?

How to Make a Graduate
Goal 1 – It Takes Entering Kindergarten Ready to Learn.
Goal 2 – It Takes Learning the Tough Stuff.
Goal 3 – It Takes Being Ready for College and Career.
Goal 4 – It Takes All of Us.

We believe student success is determined by key strategies at every point of student’s educational development. Every student can learn and can succeed. But success requires change and strategic action on our part.

We believe that what we do as a community and how we do it will make a difference to the success of each and every one of our students.

  • Every student can learn and can succeed.
  • No student is born knowing how to navigate the school system or knowing how to learn. They are taught.
  • The messages children receive at every point of their education can make the difference between success and failure.
  • Expectations must be high for every student. Low expectations breed lower success rates.
  • Successful strategies exist around the country and in our own community that prove that students of all races, ethnicities and economic backgrounds can succeed academically. We must learn from what works and implement it.
  • It is never too late to teach a child or help make a child more successful.
  • We cannot continue on our current path. The same solutions will produce the same results.

What does success look like?

  • Children should enter kindergarten ready for success.
  • We must set high standards and expectations for student course work and success if we want them to compete and succeed in the global economy.
  • High school graduates must be ready for college and career.
  • We must create a culture of continuing education to maintain our competitiveness as a region.

Because Graduates Are Made. Not Born.
